María Menéndez-Ponte
When she was a child, she was very naughty, she was always inventing games, she didn’t understand the world around her. She hardly paid attention in class at the nun school she attended, as she was too amused in letting her imagination run wild and create her own stories. Her parents, worried about her lack of discipline, sent her to a boarding school in Madrid. There, thanks to ballet and gymnastics, among other things (she was champion of Spain at thirteen and fourteen), she finally focused on studies
She began studying law at the University of Santiago de Compostela. She is also a graduate in Hispanic Philology, English Law and Comparative Law from the London Politechnic School. In addition, she holds a BA in American Language and Civilization from Marymount College in New York. She has worked as a teacher in different centers in Spain and the United States.
Her four children gave her the definitive drive toward writing. She began inventing stories and adventures that later they represented. She has been deputy director of the communication department at Ediciones SM, and collaborates in several literary magazines. In 2007 she was awarded the Cervantes Chico Prize for her work.
