Andreu, a fourteen-year-old boy from Barcelona, lives a very quiet life until he is summoned to the palace. There he meets Captain Berenguer de Segarra and, by order of King Peter III, the two set off on a secret mission that will take them beyond known lands and expose them to great dangers. Andreu is forced to grow up quickly and must learn to survive in extreme situations with the help of the captain—a stern and reserved man whom he will eventually come to care for like a father.
